Nancy Webb, MD

Dr. Webb's first BMI trip was to Bolivia in 1997, accompanied by her daughter, after her first year of college. Witnessing the life transforming work our team accomplished got her hooked. She has participated annually or biannually since that time including missions to El Salvador, and many times to Fiji and Belize. Each mission experience is so gratifying!! Dr. Webb is an ophthalmologist in Houston, Texas and has practiced medical and surgical ophthalmology at Kelsey-Seybold clinic for 46 years. She has served as the BMI President since 2016.
Downey Price, MD
Co-founder, Emeritus Board Director
Dr Downey Price, an ophthalmologist who began taking eye teams to Haiti in 1974, is the co-founder of BMI with B.T. Williamson. Dr Price served as President of BMI from its inception until 2009. He continued leading medical teams through 2025 and now fully participates in the many agendas essential to the mission sites and teams.
Rev. B.T. Williams
Co-founder, Emeritus Board Director
Rev. Williams began working with Downey Price in 1978. They collaborated to establish BMI in 1992, after numerous trips to Haiti, Belize, El Salvador, and Bolivia. B.T. has coordinated dozens of teams to eight countries around the world and recently has concentrated on re-establishing the BMI presence in Fiji post-Covid.
Edna Price
Emeritus Board Director
Edna Price, her husband Downey, and their three young sons made their first ophthalmology mission trip together to Haiti in 1975. That mission trip initiated the mission work that led to the development of BMI. Edna then filled the need for the organizational, administrative and financial direction of BMI for decades. She assembled and was a member of numerous mission teams.
Brian Au, MD
Director, 2023-2026
Dr. Brian Au is a cataract and corneal transplant surgeon practicing in Spring, TX since 2011. His first eye mission trip was with ORBIS, the flying eye hospital, when he was a senior resident. Catching the eye mission "bug", he joined BMI in 2017 and has served on many more trips. He also enjoys travel, learning foreign language, spending time with his wife and two sons, and swimming and road cycling.
Brenna Dengerink
Director, 2026-2028
Brenna has traveled to Belize five times with BMI, contributing to surgical mission efforts that serve underserved communities. She also plays an active role in donor outreach, sending personalized updates and photos to sponsors to highlight the life-changing outcomes made possible through their generosity.
Jane Johnson, RN, BSN
Director, 2023-2026
Jane Johnson is a nurse with over 20 years spent in the ICU and ER and 20 years as the owner and manager of 3 assisted living facilities in Montgomery, Texas. She has been involved with BMI since 2011 participating in over 25 mission trips to Belize and Fiji.
Tom Kittleman, MD
Director, 2026-2028
Dr. Tom Kittleman is a retired ophthalmologist. He first served on a mission trip with BMI to Belize as a surgeon 32 years ago in 1994. Since then, he has participated in over 30 mission trips with BMI. Dr. Kittleman is currently beginning his first board term.
Kristyn Reed, OD
Director, 2022-2025, 2025-2027
Dr. Kristyn Reed has over 25 years experience in the healthcare field with over 10 as an optometrist. She first participated in the BMI American Samoa trip back in 2005 at Dr. Price's request as a student and has since participated on trips to Belize and Fiji. Dr. Reed also enjoys traveling, antiquing, spending time with her family, and serving her community as a Lion.
Richard Ruckman, MD
Director, 2022-2025, 2025-2028
Dr. Richard Ruckman had practiced comprehensive ophthalmology in Lufkin, Texas until his retirement in 2016. He has been on a number of BMI mission trips to Belize and Fiji, and continues to be active in mission work.
Joseph Schmitz, MD
Director, 2025-2027
Dr. Joseph Schmitz is an ophthalmologist with over 13 years of experience and currently practices in Bellevue, Washington. He first participated in a BMI trip to Belize in 2018 and has been on 7 trips. Dr. Schmitz is currently serving his first board term and as a Fiji team co-coordinator.
Susan Silvus
Director, 2026-2028
As Chairman of the Board of Global Ministries of the Texas Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church and as Director of Outreach Ministries at St. Luke's United Methodist Church, Susan Silvus began working with BMI during its formation and served as Chairman of the Board in the early years. She also served as trip coordinator for several Belize teams and participated in BMI trips to Bolivia and Fiji.
Gary Wilson
Director, 2022-2025, 2025-2028
A retired architect, Gary Wilson first started working with BMI in the late 1980’s when his minister, Rev. Rick Goodrich, asked him to help design an eye clinic facility in Belize. Gary has remained involved ever since. He is a returning board member having previously served in the early 1990’s and is now serving his second term.
